What Message Is Our Judicial System Sending

According to the recent ruling handed down to the extremely attractive blonde school teacher in Florida, it's okay to have sexual relations with a 14 year old boy. Of course, you'll receive a slap on the wrist but for the most part the media will spend more time highlighting your glamour shots on the news than the fact that your conduct is a serious offense against the child, the parents, the school system and the rest of the nation.

Consider for a moment the outcome of a male teacher in the same state. This man was sentenced to prison for one of the lowest and most savage crimes imaginable, sexual intercourse with a child. However, Ms. Florida Hottie simply states she's going to actively pursue a career in journalism. Oh, give me a break.

The act of coercing, manipulating or forcing a child to engage in sexual activity with an adult is wrong. I'm sure the young 14 year old boy is envied by every other male student in his school. Nevertheless, this was a criminal act and should have been treated as such.

Our society seems to think that an adult woman taking advantage of a young boy is not quite as bad as it would be for a male adult to take advantage of a young girl. People wake up.

As the mother of two boys, I would be outraged if the stiffest penalty available hadn't been given to this obviously disturbed young woman. The message here is clear. If you're beautiful, young and female, it's absolutely okay to bed a child. Even Mary Kate, who was another very sad individual, was punished for her sexual offenses against her former student who later became her husband.

When and why did the standards change. I guess with Hollywood busily promoting homosexual cowboy relationships and many other everyday Americans exploiting themselves on reality TV shows, maybe we've just become more lenient in our view of values, ethics and morality.
